Foothills Shooting Range

Foothills Action Network (FAN) is a local nonprofit focused on keeping the Boise Foothills safe, healthy, and enjoyable for everyone. This page explains a proposal for a commercial shooting range in the foothills and how Ada County is reviewing it.

The applicant is seeking a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) from Ada County to operate a commercial range on private land. The Planning & Zoning Commission held a hearing on September 11, 2025 and plans to continue the matter on November 13, 2025 for a decision. Under county code, the Commission’s decision may be appealed to the Board of County Commissioners.

FAN’s position is that a commercial use of this type and scale is not a good fit for this location. In our view, it appears inconsistent with portions of Ada County’s planning objectives related to wildfire risk, wildlife habitat, and peace and quiet for nearby residents. We respect responsible shooting sports and all community members; our advocacy is policy-focused and civil.
