Foothills Action Network (FAN) monitors developments with the potential to significantly impact foothills lands and nearby neighborhoods. The issues listed below provide background, status, and references.
Foothills Shooting Range
Foothills Action Network opposes siting commercial shooting ranges near the Boise foothills’ conservation and recreation areas due to sustained gunfire noise, wildfire risk in the WUI with limited water for suppression, and impacts to mapped wildlife habitat and nearby trails identified by county staff. This isn’t anti-shooting—it’s about appropriate siting. High-impact uses should be placed where they don’t conflict with the Ada County Comprehensive Plan or create undue adverse impacts on those who call it home.
The Thing on Your Mind
Foothills Action Network was created to protect the Boise foothills — the landscape, the wildlife that depends on it, and the quality of life for people who live near it.
We know there are other proposed projects and land-use changes in the foothills. When a proposal raises concerns about safety, noise, wildfire risk, habitat impact, or long-term land use, we’re open to learning more and, where it aligns with our mission, working alongside neighbors.
